Leading Digital Transformation Programme

Are you leading a digital transformation programme but feel out of your depth? With growing demand to use digital technology in the NHS, more staff are being asked to lead digital transformation programmes without any formal training or support.

Our six-module online programme will help you develop the skills and confidence to deliver effective digital transformation programmes in the NHS. It will cover the full process, including how to address common barriers, such as resistance to change, stakeholder engagement and digital literacy.

While this course is underpinned by theory, our aim is to help you apply it using your own case study. You’ll hear best practice tailored specifically for healthcare in a supportive environment.

Tailored

This isn't a generic course, it's made specifically for NHS staff

Practical

Targeted

We'll cover the barriers that NHS staff, like you, said they need the most support with

Why is this programme important?

Despite digital technology being identified as a key theme for achieving the NHS’ 10-year plan, the Darzi report noted that to date, the NHS has struggled to “fully realise the benefits”.

According to research by The Health Foundation (2024), the potential impact of digital technology in healthcare is highly dependent on the effectiveness of the implementation. With a growing demand to use digital technology in the NHS, more and more clinical and non-clinical staff are being asked to lead digital transformation programmes, often without specific training in the area, and as part of their existing role.

A recent poll, conducted by NHS Elect, found that of 238 NHS staff who lead digital transformation programmes in the NHS, 61% rated their proficiency in digital transformation as ‘Beginner’ or ‘Novice’, 31% as ‘Intermediate’, and only 7% as ‘Advanced’ or ‘Expert’.

About the programme

What can you expect from the programme?

The programme is split into six modules led by our digital transformation specialists, Ella Nuttall (Strategy and Implementation), Claire Wroe (Clinical) and Tania Shetty (Programme Management).

As this is a practical programme, we invite you to bring a real-life case study, so that you can apply your learning each week.

Each module will include:

  • A live two-hour interactive learning session, where you'll learn the knowledge and skills required for effective digital transformation.
  • A one-hour working group session with 6-8 people, where you can discuss your case study. The aim is to form a community of practice, working with other participants to help shape and challenge each other's thinking, as well as collectively share outputs and experience.
  • Elements of self-directed learning, including from publications, websites, videos and podcasts.
