We all want to improve the services we provide, and we each play an important role in bringing about real improvements for our patients and the public. 
 
Managers play a critical role in all improvement work. Without their support and guidance, improvement is likely to stall or not sustain in the longer term.

Who is this course for

 Anyone and everyone. Uncertainty is the key driver of anxiety.  From personal worries at home and work to the huge changes we see in the world around us and within our own organisations. Anxiety is unsustainable and leads us to fog, stasis and overwhelm. Learning to increase your uncertainty tolerance gives you a talisman against today’s world of change allowing you to worry less and do more.

Sidney Beech

Sid joined NHS Elect in 2023 and has worked in both Acute and Community settings in the NHS in a range of roles including insights, patient safety, quality improvement and education. Sid is a member of the QI Faculty at NHS Elect and delivers a range of quality improvement training, workshops, strategy development and more.

Some of Sid’s recent accomplishments include leading on the national co-design of the Quality Coach Development Programme in partnership with 43 other healthcare leaders from across the UK and Ireland. This programme provides a national benchmark for QI coach capability building, and has been adopted throughout the country. Prior to this, Sid set up and delivered the first Master’s degree programme for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety in England, delivered jointly by Northampton General Hospital and the University of Northampton. As well as a Senior Lecturer for this programme, Sid also acted as a Visiting Lecturer to the Leicester Medical School for the Patient Safety Curriculum.

Sid has a passion for systems improvement and is currently leading on a national project to co-create a Systems Improvement Practitioner programme. This work builds on the significant demand for support around systems improvement across the UK and is supported by the Health Foundation’s Q Exchange programme 2024.

Andy Mitchell

Andy is Assistant Director at NHS Elect and works across the AEC and Acute Frailty Networks.  Andrew has over 20 years’ experience in Urgent and Emergency Care, Acute Medicine and Critical Care within the NHS and internationally.

Andy initially developed his clinical career in a number of EDs as well as other acute and critical care areas, becoming a Service Lead and Advanced Nurse Practitioner.

Andy has previously developed and implemented a nurse-led AEC service and during his time with NHS ELect has worked with over 50 Trusts and other providers across the UK in optimising their SDEC offers. He has particular interests in Experience Based Design, nursing workforce and development, and Quality Improvement techniques.

In addition to his work at NHS Elect, Andy has undertaken interim strategy posts and provides consultancy to nursing agencies.  Andrew has been a visiting postgraduate lecturer in Emergency Practice and is passionate about promoting Advanced Nursing.
