Clinical Educator National Development Programme

Clinical educators from across the country have told us that they want a development programme focused on the skills they need to educate and develop the clinical workforce of the present and future.  Over 5 months, participants will come together online to develop skills and confidence in the areas which were most requested in a national needs analysis completed by over 800 people.

This modular programme will provide delegates with the skills to design educationally sound learning initiatives which meet the diverse needs of the current and future healthcare workforce, while developing personal leadership and understanding of working within rapidly changing systems.

We recognise that individuals have different roles and learning needs, and have designed this programme to be able to step on and off to gain what you need.

Why is developing clinical educators important?

Supporting the educator workforce is a key priority for the NHS, underscored by the publication of the NHS Educator Workforce Strategy.

Given the ever-growing pressures on the NHS, the importance of education and training cannot be overstated. There is a crucial link between ensuring the NHS has a future workforce, and development of and support for a high-quality educator workforce, however there is limited opportunity for training and development of educators themselves.

To help reverse this trend NHS Elect is working with teams across the NHS to develop solutions that will help them thrive not just survive.

How does the programme work?

The programme includes up to 8 three-hour online modules led by our clinical education specialists, Julie Combes, Lydia Lofton and Libby Thomas.

The programme is split into 2 parts, and you can choose to attend just the first part should you wish to. Full details of the 8 modules are shown below.

Option 1: Practical skills for clinical educators

Participate in the first 5 modules of the programme at a cost of 2 tokens or £600 for members, or £800 for non-members.

Option 2: Educators leading within systems AND practical skills for clinical educators
